On Friday, June 15th, the Palm Beach Tenants Union will join residents in a show of solidarity at the front gate of Joseph's Village.
Housing is a human right!
Justice for Joseph's Village tenants
We shall not be moved!
Evict the slumlords!
The tenants describe the property as “a living hell.” Rats, roaches, bed bugs, you name it. Staff frequently abuses and neglects tenants. Rents are going up and driving the tenants out.
The property manager - Mr. Brown - runs the neighborhood like his personal fiefdom. Staff and tenants are in absolute terror of the man. Any outspoken tenant advocate is made an "example of" and receives swift retaliation.
In addition the landlord plans to turn all of the properties into assisted living facilities, which are big cash cows. In the process hundreds of senior residents will be evicted and left with nowhere to go.
Joseph’s Village is one of the last affordable housing neighborhoods in West Palm Beach. We should not only fight to preserve it, but fight for decent conditions!
